School Counselor

School counselors work at the middle school level using a variety of methods to help students find their appropriate educational path and achieve their secondary goals. The most important role of the school counselor is to serve as the student’s advocate. Here in the middle school, the counselor facilitates your child’s academic, social, and career development, ensuring all students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. In assisting students with these adjustments, the counselor deals with personal matters as well as academic and social issues. The counselor reviews report cards, scores on state assessments, and gathers information from the child’s teachers. If there are signs that your child is struggling, the counselor intervenes and tries to assist the student personally and with other resources that are available. Below is a graphic illustration of how the counselor works together with the school, as well as outside resources.
